Developing 2020 Budget
Public Consultation / Meetings to discuss 2020 budget and 2020-2024 financial planThe public is invited to observe and participate in the City Council's budget meetings as Council members began discussions on the 2020 budget and 2020-2024 financial plan.
The Committee of the Whole Council (COWC) met on July 9, 2019 to discuss proposed Budget 2020 and Five Year Financial Plan development timeline and budget direction. The timeline was approved by Council on July 16, 2019 with Council committing to:
• support a 0% tax rate increase for 2020;
• support 0% water and sewer rate increases for 2020;
• support a reduction in capital spending to within a target of 20% of the annual
operating / capital budget for 2020, etc.
The preliminary 2020 budget and financial plan was presented to the public COWC meetings on October 29 and November 12, 2019 and will be further discussed to finalise the documents.
Preliminary budget documents that were discussed are presented on this web page - City residents are encouraged to take a look at the City’s budget presentations. The budget and expenses for all City departments and divisions are presented as well as the City's capital plans. Residents will also see these documents revised, as Council deliberates and makes budget decisions in the coming weeks and months.
In addition to seeking public feedback at the Council meetings, the City is using public engagement platform and online budget consultation tool. This interactive tool, powered by the Ethelo's stakeholder engagement platform, allows residents to see the revenues the City is budgeting to collect and expenditures that are planned to be spent on services and programs in our community in 2020. The tool also allows residents to provide valuable input on how they would like to balance City’s budget by changing the revenues and expenditures (the 2020 interactive budget tool can be found at williamslake.citizenbudget.com).
