Developing 2021 Budget
Public Consultation / Meetings to discuss 2021 financial planThe public is invited to observe and participate in the City Council's budget meetings as Council members began discussions on the 2021 budget and 2021-2025 financial plan.
The Committee of the Whole Council (COWC) met on August 18, 2020 to discuss proposed Budget 2021 and Five Year Financial Plan development timeline and budget direction. The timeline was approved by Council on August 25, 2020 with Council directing budget development targeting:
• 0% increase in tax rates and 0% increase in water and sewer rates;
• encouragement for building the community upwards and within the city boundaries;
• no change in existing city services;
• no additional staff positions;
• no contracts entered into without prior Council approval; and
• encouragement for seeking additional/unconventional revenue sources.
The preliminary 2021 budget and financial plan will be presented to the public COWC meetings on November 10, 2020.
Preliminary budget documents discussed would be presented on this web page - City residents are encouraged to take a look at the City’s budget presentations. The budget and expenses for all City departments and divisions would be presented as well as the City's capital plans. Residents will also see these documents revised, as Council deliberates and makes budget decisions in the coming weeks and months.
In addition to seeking public feedback at the Council meetings, the City will be using public engagement platform and online budget consultation tool. This interactive tool, powered by the Ethelo's stakeholder engagement platform, allows residents to see the City's proposed revenues expenditures and also allows residents to provide valuable input on how they would like to balance City’s budget by changing the revenues and expenditures (the 2021 consultation will be available soon, meanwhile prior year consultation can be viewed at williamslake.citizenbudget.com).
If you would like to leave a comment on the City's 2021 budget for City Council, please e-mail us a message, stating your name and Williams Lake address (anonymous comments or comments from non-residents will not be presented to Council).
