The City of Williams Lake invites residents to an Open House on upcoming planned activities to reduce the threat of potential forest fires. It will be held this Thursday, March 3 from 4 pm to 8 pm in the Gibraltar Room
In the early spring of 2022, fuel reduction work is planned for key areas in Williams Lake as a critical step to reduce the impacts of potential forest fires. The Westridge, Williams Lake Golf and Tennis Club, and Dairy Fields areas will see thinning operations and controlled burns utilized as tools to help reduce forest and grassland fuels that would feed forest fires.
The operations are all priority actions identified in the Williams Lake Community Wildfire Protection Plan created following the historic wildfires of the Cariboo region in 2017.
To find out more about why this helps protect our homes and communities, the Open House will provide residents a chance to learn more, and ask questions, of experts.
The City, meanwhile, has launched a new website featuring regularly-updated FireSmart information at www.williamslake.ca/873/Community-Wildfire-Protection. The site contains important resources, links and up-to-date information on upcoming fuel treatments residents should be aware of.
